France records more than 16,000 new cases of Covid-19 in a record 24 hours

France recorded 16,096 new cases of Covid-19 within 24 hours, which is a record since the virus detection tests were launched on a large scale in the country, according to data released Thursday evening by the French Public Health Directorate.

The Health Directorate said that while new containment measures were announced on Wednesday, 52 patients died of COVID-19 within 24 hours in hospital.
