India is considering buying all of Russia’s exports of coke

According to press reports, Russia and India are considering exporting about 40 million tons of Russian coke annually to India, which is equivalent to Russia’s total exports of this material used in steel production, according to the Russian Kommersant newspaper.

The Russian newspaper reported, citing sources close to the talks, that the Russian State Council is discussing this issue after the Indian Ministry of Steel Industry announced its desire to import these quantities of Russian coke.

Bloomberg News reported that Russia currently exports less than one million tons of coke to India out of the total annual exports of about 46 million tons.

Bloomberg added that the export of these large quantities of Russian coke to India needs to modernize the sea ports that will be used for shipping and receiving coal.
