The President of the European Commission supports the imposition of European Union sanctions on Belarus

The President of the European Commission, Ursula van der Leyen, expressed her support for imposing sanctions on officials from Belarus “who violated democratic values ​​and violated human rights”.

“I am confident that the discussions of the European Union foreign ministers today will demonstrate our strong support for the rights of the Belarusian people with regard to fundamental freedoms and democracy,” Van der Leyen said on Twitter.

European Union foreign ministers are due to meet on Friday to discuss possible sanctions against Belarus.
