James Jeffrey, the US special envoy for Syrian affairs, considered that Russia had managed to achieve a very big military success in Syria.
Jeffrey said during a video conference organized by the Hudson Institute for Strategic Studies today, Tuesday, that Russia has vital interests in Syria, represented in preserving its military bases in this country and protecting its economic investments.
He added that Moscow believes that with its limited military intervention in Syria, it can achieve great strategic successes.
He continued, “They are indeed very successful in Syria from the military point of view.
The whole problem is that there is no political way out due to the difficulties related to Syrian President Bashar Assad.
Our job is to open the road for them through the United Nations, but that requires them to get some distance from Assad and the Iranians”.
