Trump’s personal attorney, Rudy Giuliani, orders Trump’s personal lawyer to hand over documents relating to the Ukraine case as part of their inquiry into the impeachment of the Republican president

Rudy Giuliani, President Donald Trump’s personal lawyer, has ordered the House of Representatives’ investigators to hand over documents on the Ukraine case as part of their inquiry into the impeachment of the Republican president.

Democrats said in a statement that Giuliani “acknowledged on television that he, as the president’s personal lawyer, had asked the Ukrainian government to target former Vice President Joe Biden” for his activities in Ukraine, noting that the former mayor of New York is obliged to submit the relevant documents by October 15.

The heads of the three parliamentary committees, namely the Foreign Affairs, Intelligence and Oversight of the Executive Authority, Giuliani that “your refusal or non-compliance with this restraining order will be proof of impeding the ongoing investigation in the House of Representatives”.

The House of Representatives has opened an investigation on suspicion of abuse of power by the president during a telephone conversation with his Ukrainian counterpart.

“In addition to this grave confession, you recently stated that you have evidence – in the form of text messages, phone call records and other communications – that you were not acting alone and that other Trump administration officials may have been involved in this”, the heads of the parliamentary committees said in a statement”.

Democrats also summoned Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to testify in the House of Representatives as part of the investigation into Ukraine.

Pompeo was among those who listened to the conversation between Trump and Zelensky, a State Department official told AFP on Monday.

On Monday, Trump renewed his defense, confirming in a statement at the White House Oval Office that the call by Zelensky “was a perfect call” and reiterated his accusation to the intelligence agent who informed the authorities about the call that he fabricated lies.

On September 24, Democrats who control the House of Representatives opened an investigation on suspicion that the Republican president had pressed his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky to open a judicial inquiry in Ukraine targeting Hunter Biden, the son of the front-runner for the Democratic nomination and face Trump in the next presidential election in 2020.

Hunter Biden was a member of the board of the Ukrainian gas group when his father was Vice President Barack Obama.

Trump commissioned his personal lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, to investigate the Hunter Biden case in Ukraine.

Indeed, Giuliani traveled to Ukraine, where he met a number of Ukrainian officials, and publicly stated that he did so in consultation with the Foreign Ministry.
