On 6 January 2018, the US television channel, CBS, broadcast an interview with Egyptian President, Abdel Fattah Al Sissi as part of their program “60 minutes”, in this interview, President Al Sissi declared “that his army is working with Israel to fight terrorists in the North of Sinai”.
CBS’s announcement that it planned to broadcast this interview had alarmed the Egyptian ambassador to Washington.
The latter had asked that the interview not be aired, a request that fell on deaf ears.
Whilst President Al Sissi is talking about collaboration, most actors in the region are persuaded that the Israeli air force had struck what Daesh call Wilayat Sinai (“the province of Sinai “) more than a hundred times during the last three years.
According to the website of the Israeli Left Walla!, joint operations against Daesh are being used to conceal actions against the Ezzedine Al Qassam Brigades, the pro-Iranian, armed branch of the Palestinian Hamas.
